Track Smack

10-5-09 - Bracket Finals.  Brian and I made our way to Waynesboro last week. We both had some really good runs up there. Aside from that I believe a couple years ago I said I never wanted to go back there and I made good on that last year. For the money you pay out the return is very small. They added another class this year making it impossible to finish Foot brake or super pro past 4th round I believe. So the money was split each night at about $220 a person in FB. Not sure on Super. Do not get me wrong I have no problem with the other classes but the fact is FB and SP make up the majority of the feild. The "Majority" came to the Bracket Finals to have a shot at a higher purse. Why should we go I have to ask? I heard this throughout the CB pits over the weekend and even some of the Old Dominion pits. All in all I did try hard to do my best. I was put up against track champions on all but 2 of my runs over the whole weekend. One run for example I had a .0003 reaction to my oponets .004 and I lost by running out with a 6.7065 on a 6.71 dial. It does not get much closer than that. Will I ever go to the bracket finals again? Only to have a good time with my family if they go.I want to thank Peerless Performance and Brian Sawdy for all their help this weekend. I would not have been able to go without my wife Angela's support either. Thank you again to everyone that supported me going.

9/21/09 KOB. King of the Beach once again. I waas getting ready to leave for the track on Sat. morning and  Riley asked if I would take him to the Jake day @ Caledon. Since I have been gone the last 2 weekends I decided to stay home and take him. On Sunday Brian and I went to the beach with great hopes. I was wanting to try the S10 since I fixed the broken throttle. Well I immediately ran a 6.55 the fastest all year. To finish it off the 12hr day ended with Brian WINNING KOB Sunday. I took the S10 to the Final 8 cars. It was a long but good day.

9/15/09 Back to racing. Well I missed the race 2 Sundays ago and wished to have a backup driver take my place but not much luck there. I was out on travel for work. I made it down this past Sunday and was hoping to get some rounds under my belt but the S10 was not running right. Brian and I worked on it this evening and found the throttle assembly broken. With this I was not getting full throttle explaining why I got slower each pass. Brian went a few rounds and the Play Toy did not go racing.

8/30/09  A long tough month. The Sawdy family lost a pillar of the family today. My Aunt Kathy was a joy and touched so many people. She will be missed by so many. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes.

7/23/09 It's been awhile.  I have been lax on keeping the site updated but finally I get the time to so. A lot has been going on. Last weekend we took the entire Sawdy team to CB for racing. Everything was raced but the Lil Wartoy. Lil Wartoy was still on the lift awaiting its custom drive shaft after loosing it the weekend before. Brian took 2nd Sunday and lost the planetary doing so. David took 3rd and Riley took 2nd in Jr, Dennis went out 2nd round. Brian lost 2nd round in the Henry-J. It was a warm and fun day at the track.

6/28/09 War Toy Wins. Well after a bit of a dry spell in the winners circle Brian pulled out the win over Rufus Hill today. Congrats Brian! I made it back to the track after being gone away for the last couple of Sundays. I did the best I have done all year and think I have found something in the left lane so look out CB Racers because I am coming!. Dad took the Play Toy to the third round and lost to Travis Taylor with a good race off the tree.

6/15/09 Gone Again. I am gone away on travel so I missed last Sunday and will also miss this Sunday. I really hate being gone for Fathers day but I really have no choice. I do not think there was a lot of racers at the track last Sun. Don't know why but there wasn't. I hope to be back on the 28th.

6/7/09 One of Two days. We raced on Sat. night @ CB. The Play Toy made it to the final 4 cars. David lost 1sr round and by back but had good results and found the tree again. Brian went 3 rounds running out just barely with a great reaction.  Sunday found the team at home doing odds and ends.

5/29/09 Long Weekend. Well as you probably know Riley and I went to the beach and did not race. The Play Toy went some rounds and came home with a few dollars. Brian took the War Toy a few rounds as well but it really was not a great weekend for Sawdy Racing.

5/19/09 Rain Delayed.  Well we had rain again this past weekend which stopped racing Sunday. I did take the truck down on Friday night and it ran very well. I think it is were it needs to be now. Thanks to all my family that has been helping me get that truck running. The only thing else that is going on is Brian has been working hard on his Dually to get it painting. Peerless Performance has also had 2 cars in the shop within the last month. One is still there and it is a Top Sportsman car, The other car is aFB car from the beach that got new wiring, and some going over of the timing and valve train that really improved the performance of that car.

5/11/09 Good Times at the Duck. Part of the Sawdy crew went to the Duck Sat night. The Playtoy ended up second to Chris Bunch. Dad ran a 6.66 on a 6.60 dial. He said the Playtoy felt like it left slow. It went in the shop today and low and behold the gas pedal stop had broken a weld causing the throttle to not go wide open. I am not saying this would have given us the win but it obviously effected the performance of the Playtoy on that run. I only went 2 rounds loosing with a 4 car length advantage. Not thinking to much about it I looked back at my time slip and saw that the Dial in was wrong on my ticket. Well it is my fault cause I should have checked the dial in.

4/27/09 Broke- Well what was hopes for a fun weekend of racing turned sour for the Black S10. I went down to CB on Sat. for the car show to test the S10 after finally getting the rear suspension set correctly. After a trip around the track I had Brian take the S10 for a ride around to see what he thought.  He agreed that I needed to park the truck. I took it straight home and changed the trans. My Wayne Rogers Glide has been good to me but I took it out and put my spare Wayne Rogers Glide in. I loaded back up Sunday morning and went back to the beach and one trip around the track I loaded the truck back up. I knew then the trans I took out was not the problem. The rear had issues. I took it home and pulled it apart to find the ring gear ate up pretty bad. I will have it fixed for this weekend but I wont be at the track until after Mothers Day. Dennis took the Playtoy 2 rounds and Brian made it to the final 4 cars so the day was not that bad.

On another note I am having some PC problems so it will be a couple days before I update David's Corner.

4/19/09 Play Toy wins. Well what can I say. The Play Toy got the first win of the year for the Sawdy camp. Good job to my dad, Dennis, Uncle Cecil, and Uncle Mert for getting the job done. Brian went 2 rounds before spinning off the line. I did not take the S10 down. I stayed home and put the Jr. Dragster back together. I would have made it to the track to let Riley give it a try but I did not want to be rushed.
On Sat. Brian and I (David) went to Capital City to try the Karts out testing for the big VDKA race upcoming. We pretty much did not get anything accomplished other than figure out that my 4 cycle motor is done and that the carb on brians 2 stroke has problems. We have a back up plan for the VDKA race I just hope things go better for that event.
4/7/09 ATV vs. Drag.  The ATV won over my decision for enjoyment for this past weekend, The heavy rain in the mountains on Friday morning brought white water conditions to the normal rolling brook that I like to visit several times a year. I ended up sick though on Sunday and could not have made it to the track anyway, My dad, Dennis, Uncle Mert and cousin Brian went down to CB to try their luck. The Play Toy ran consistent but lost to the hard charging Chris Moren 1st round and then again in the 3rd round. Brian went a couple rounds as well. He is still tuning on the alcohol but he is close to having the War Toy tuned in for battle. I still need to do some more test and tune with the S10 I just need to find the time. Riley is really wanting to be more active at the race track this year so I took his motor off and it is being completely gone over. Once I get that back I hop to have Riley back out there racing,
3/27/09 Looks like damp weather has set in for a few days. We may get lucky and get out to the track tomorrow.  I have a few more tests to do on the S10 before I pull apart the rear again. The S10 did a lot better but I need to get a little better number out of it.
3/22/09 - Well our first test and tune is in the books.  Brian tuned the VENOM VIPER Fueled WAR TOY to a 5.85 pass. He blew the oil cap off and soaked the engine, firewall, windshield, you know the works with oil. I was able to make a few passes as well and got a 6.55 out of the S10.  The best thing was it went straight. I still have some work to do but I'm getting there. The Play Toy stayed home and when I got home I pulled the Jr. Dragster out and pulled it apart. I am sending the motor out this week to have some work done to that. If you know anyone that wants a 10.90 Jr. motor this one may be for sale. If you are interested email me @  david@sawdyracing.com  I also have a GREAT pit bike for sale. It is a 1984 HONDA ATC 70. It has been gone over and looks awesome. I will get some pics online of it soon. It is a neat little bike that is easy to carry and ride. I am asking $600.00 for it. It has lotas of new parts as it just had a complete make over.
3/15/09 - I just got back from a rainy mountain trip. My wife Angela, Riley and I went to Rockingham county for some R&R. We took the 4 wheelers for a short 4 mile ride on Saturday morning as the rain began to fall. We got wet fast so the day of riding ended early. We hung out at the cabin and went into town for some take out diner. We loaded up this morning and made great time getting back home.  Even though it was rainy it was fun to get out for 2 nights.
Next Sat is the CB awards banquet at the King George Parks and Rec building. This is the same location as last year.
3/4/09 - Well we had a big snow fall! Sawdyville got about 12 inches. We had a blast riding around in the snow. The weather man is calling for warmer weather from now til May. Hope it is true and I can get some more work done on the truck. I have the rear suspension back on but not tightened down. I need to get it buttoned up so I can get it out to a test and tune to see if it will go straight.

2/19/09 - I did more work on the S10 tonight. Found a leak around the radiator. Well after further inspection I found the plastic neck on the top hose was broken. Now I need a radiator cause there is no fixing that. Great just what I needed. I thought it was about ready to start. I am starting to work on the rear. If anyone has a good deal on rear shocks let me know because I think I need 2.

2/17/09 - I am still working on the site. I have received some comments from people that have been helpful. I got busy with work and have been slow on getting some of the pages finished like the blog. I am still learning the software I am using so that has slowed the process as well.

As an update everyone's race car is ready to go around the Sawdy camp but my S10 and it is real close. I only have a few minor things to do. It can be started and ran at this time. What have I done? I removed the trusty Holley blue fuel pump and 6AN plumbing. I replaced it with a Barry Grant BG400 with 10AN line to the regulator. I have removed the headers and replaced teh gaskets. I found a burnt gasket on the driver side. I installed the door gaskets on the doors to seal it up a bit. I installed Earl's braided brak lines on the rear disk brakes with new pads in the calipers. What's left? I will be making a chasis mod to the 3 link to allow me to adjust the linkage so that the truck can transfer the weight properly. Brian and I will also be installing the wheelie bars. If all that does not give me the performance I am looking for I am going to change the 4.56 gearset for a 4.83 and if that does not satisfy me maybe it's time for the NOS???

2/3/09 - Well I have changed the look of SawdyRacing.com. I have finally got high speed internet access at my home which should make it easier for me to update and maintain the website. I have added a movie and eventually a photo album page to add soon. If you still have dial-up you may have trouble viewing the video but if you are patient it will eventually load. Once those additions are loaded to the site I will update the track smack to advise you.

What's going on? Well we have the Play Toy ready for the new season and I believe Brian now has the War Toy ready as well. I still have the S10 into several pieces. The new BG400 I installed leaked from the pump so when I have some further work to do. That is what is going on right now. If you want let me know what is going on in your garage. Email me david@sawdyracing.com

Thanks, David
